Neighborhood

Bethnal Green is East London without the tourist markup. Victorian terraces, Turkish grocers, and a Central line station that puts you at Liverpool Street in three minutes and Oxford Circus in about fifteen. Most of the highlights of East London are walkable from here. You have Columbia Road flower market on Sunday mornings, we recommend going at around 2pm if you want a good deal, as sellers are getting rid of their stock then. Brick Lane and the old Truman Brewery are also nearby. You have Broadway Market and London Fields on Saturdays. In the other direction you've got Victoria Park and the canal towpath, where everyone goes for a run or to the Sunday food market. Our picks: E Pellicci on Bethnal Green Road has been frying breakfasts since 1900, one of the oldest businesses in the neighbourhood. The railway arches at Paradise Row/Gales Gardens hold the wine bars and beer halls. York Hall still does boxing nights. Young V&A is less than 10 minutes away and it's free!

Location

Sorry we're unable to show you the location for this property

Honestly, most of the time you won't need transport at all. Columbia Road and Brick Lane are about 10 minutes on foot, Shoreditch 20, Victoria Park 20 in the other direction, and you can walk into the City in half an hour. The canal towpath at Cambridge Heath is a good traffic-free route if you're heading up towards Angel or east to the Olympic Park. When you do need it: the Central line gets you across town quickly and runs all night on Fridays and Saturdays. Bethnal Green Overground, on the Weaver line, is useful for Liverpool Street and for going north towards Hackney and Walthamstow. The number 8 bus runs along Bethnal Green Road to Shoreditch, Bank and Oxford Circus, and it's often a nicer ride than the tube. You don't need to buy tickets or an Oyster card, just tap a contactless card or your phone at the gates and on the bus. There are hire bikes parked along Bethnal Green Road if you'd rather cycle, and black cabs and Ubers are easy to get at any hour.
